Project Profile: Income Property, Naomi and Scott

This is by far one of my favorite episodes I’ve designed for Income Property. This is such a fabulous example of how far a coat of paint and new cabinets can take you.  We kept the old floors, and simple did a cosmetic facelift.  The cabinets are Ikea, and the counters look like marble but they are laminate!

HGTV Episode Profile: Naomi and Scott need to renovate the second floor apartment of their 5 unit apartment building so they can increase the rent which will help them to pay their huge mortgage, family loans and the high costs of running this building – sticking to their plans for the property will help maintain their friendly status as partners! I made a House a Home, and it’s in House & Home Magazine

This article warms my heart for many reasons.  This house and couple were my partners in crime on HGTV’s Marriage Under Construction, documenting the design and reno in a 13 episode series.  (You can watch it online now at HGTV.ca or HGTV.com) Producing a TV series is a time-consuming process that has you spending more time together than not.  A situation that could be tough if you don’t get so well with your counterparts.  Lucky for me, I adore Rodney and Natalie.  We created a pretty spectacular home together that really defines them and their family.

I’m lucky to be a part of their extended family now, and together with my family get to eat Rodney’s cooking and hang out with them at home on a few of the kinda-famous Sunday dinners.  House and Home Magazine visited them at home for one of these dinners and captured Rodney at work in his kitchen.  Lucky for you, he’s shared the recipes and a few of his favorite trade secrets with H&H.  Pick up the November issue on news stands now for the glossy paged, proper view of it.

Rodney and I are cooking up a few things of our own.   Keep an eye out for what sorts of mischief the two of us are getting up to next……….you can be sure there will be food, trouble and good design 😉

Opportunity is knocking, wanna answer!

I’ve begun working on Income Property, as the previous post suggests.  I’ve been debriefed and know what’s what.   The what that I still need to answer is furniture.  I need it!

At the end of each episode the newly designed rental unit that Scott has whipped into shape, is fabulously styled with furniture offering a complete perspective on the potential it now has.

I’d like to open it up to local furniture suppliers that I’m in need of your fantastic goods to style the upcoming episodes to their fullest.  We’re quite efficient and typically borrow pieces for just 48 hours and always strive for mid-week allowing them to be back to you for the weekend rush.

This is a terrific way to have your products showcased across Canada and the US in obviously lovely spaces (I’m designing them!)
