This space was previously two small bedrooms, with a dropped ceiling and no storage. I opened the entire floor, allowing for one large open concept master suite. This plan is not for everyone, but these clients enjoy wide open space, and love the idea of a true hotel-style bedroom.
The previously unused area in the lower roof was reclaimed and became a continuous closet end to end. We left exposed the structural joists above, and stained them dark to match the new oiled oak floors. The brick party-wall was exposed and oiled adding rich texture and colour to the room. The floors within the bed area are a wide plank, oiled oak, and in the washroom area are a matched porcelain tile. A 36″ wide limestone-look porcelain tile in a deep brown provides a transition from the wood to faux wood materials.
The shower, vanity and toilet are situated in the opposite end of the room’s “L” footprint. between the two areas, a free-standing tub is left open to both the washroom and the bedroom. Both are accented with a soft French Linen marble, oversized tile.
We pulled a drywall partition in front of the brick chimney, and installed a traditional wall covering from Farrow and Ball, providing some contrast to the otherwise modern space.
We punched through to the adjacent flat roof, and added a new roof top deck overlooking the backyard. Two skylights completed the renovation filtering sum down to the bed below.
